In the summer of 1990, Kim Blakey and Debbie Varley put a notice in the Keller Citizen Newspaper. A Quilting club meeting was to be held at the Keller Library. 12 or so ladies came to that first meeting. Most strangers, simply sharing a love for quilting. Once a month the group kept meeting. They moved to the Tri County Electric conference room after out growing the library. Next stop Saint Martin in the Field Episcopal Church.

Their first group quilt. A baby quilt for the youngest member and founder Kim Blakely.

As with quilting where every piece of fabric is needed to make a quilt, each piece its own story. The name of a quilt guild needed to represent the communities in the area. So in June of 1991, Bear Creek quilt guild was officially name.  The joy of gathering with other quilters, swapping tips, tricks and ideas formed a guild, building the frame work of their own quilt body.

Adding adventure was the next coarse of action. Road Trip Time! Various quilt shops and of coarse the Houston Quilt Show. In 1993, Bear Creek participated in the United Nations Friendship Quilt traveling show. Using Texas fabrics to create a quilt that traveled the world as part of the show.

Next up. Show Time! So in 1996 at Saint Martin in the Fields Episcopal Church Bear Creek held its first show. It may have been small, but the quilts were beautiful. Mary Unverzagt won the Best of Show.
